Dusting Off

 

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted anything here. Looking back, I see it’s been since 2019 that I posted anything written. It’s been since 2020 that I posted anything at all. However, this year that will change. It’ll be back to business – writing and sharing my thoughts on all things pop culture (with maybe some other topics thrown in for good measure), getting my Patreon thriving, making long and short form videos, and maybe even self-publishing a book. It will take some time and I hope you follow along this journey. I’ve got great plans.

 

What exactly has been going on in the last 5 years? For better or worse, the world changed back in 2020. It keeps changing. It feels like time and history keeps barreling forward. Jokingly, people say they’d like to live in precedented and I’m inclined to concur.

 

 We’ve watched political regimes rise and fall. We’ve struggled through ever-changing climate crises with excessive heat, floods, blizzards, earthquakes, and so on and so forth. We’ve found ourselves thrust into a technological renaissance with AI. Those are but a few global events that come to mind.

 

In my personal life, I’ve gotten more cats than I know what to do with. I’ve gotten new dogs and lost a couple as well. I’ve found myself enthralled with creating tiny booknooks. I’ve even been going to school for my doctorate. I’ve even made discoveries about my health and gender identity. It’s been a lot of changes.

 

But there are some things that have not changed. I am still passionate about writing and pop culture. I adore music, tv, and movies. I’m still watching some of the shows I started 20-30 years ago, which reminds me I’d like to do a rewatch of those shows and review/critique them. Is that of interest? A Better Way

I must start out by saying I respect Rod Serling. He was a sapient man. His writing was phenomenal.  I enjoy listening to the dialogue of each episode of The Twilight Zone because there was true thought behind the words. It makes me think about my life and upcoming years as well as how people of the 1950's and 1960's viewed the not so distant future and the technologies that people thought would come with the 21st century. From what was written, I learn about my past. Things that were current - such as the Cold War and Space Race - were incorporated into many of the episodes. Serling was giving a commentary about those things as well.  He touched on not only topics of the day, but the fears for the future. He showed the viewer how the world could be Utopian but at the same time it was also a Dystopian place just by taking a different viewpoint of  a certain situation. Mischievousness

   Here's a little piece I wrote for a challenge. I thought I'd share. Under the amber leaves of autumn, she perched on one of the high branches of the oak. Her elongated fingers wrapped around her perch as she leaned forward. Her blue eyes peered at the foliage-covered land below her. As the fall winds whistled through the branches, it whipped her long brown locks around her petite face and pointed ears. A mischievous smile twisted the corners of her lips upwards as two humans passed by. *What trickery shall I play,* thought the fae as the couple stopped under the tree she was in. As the lovers leaned in for a kiss, she whispered to a near-by spider. A pithy laugh escaped her lips as the arachnid lowered itself and spun a web between the two. Just as they were about to lock lips, one of the humans got entangled with the web. Screaming, the web was wiped away and the lovers left unaware of the folly of the moment.
