A Story in Song

In a small corner of the world, there lives a singer/song writer duo who weaves magic and mysticism throughout their songs. They are called The Green Children. Their pieces are hauntingly beautiful and capture the imagination. It's as if they are bringing  Alice's Wonderland, King Arthur's Camelot, or Samwise Gamgee's Shire to life through their music.

One of my favorite songs of theirs, is Dragons. It tells the story of 2, green-skinned children from 12th century England. The boy is ill and the girl watches over him. With his death, we (the viewer) switches to the present day, where a young woman - the lovely and talented, Milla Sunde - lays in bed. Like the boy was at the beginning of the story, she is ill.

In her room, the boy, older though  (played by the dashing Marlow Bevan - the male half of The Green Children), watches over her. He wants her because she reminds him of his sister. In her fevered state, she fantasizes about being sent, while dressed in a gorgeous and fiery gown, to a mystical forest. This young man seems to be her only means of escaping this forest and her illness.

Every time Milla gets close to him, Marlow vanishes from her sight. He is still there in the woods. He watches over her. The woman wants to leave this place, but he won't let her.

She feels oddly connected to this desolate place, even though there is a yearning to escape. Milla is the only other person in the woods. The woman is also connected to her home and she mutters of the mystical place. As the illness progresses, Milla becomes uncertain that the forest is real. The woman wonders if she's going crazy and is merely hallucinating what she sees and hears.

The longer she stays in the place, the longer she finds out what happened and that she was a green child who was reincarnated and had a lover named Marlow, whom she lost to an illness. Now Milla doesn't want to leave, but instead, she is desperate to join Marlow in death. Desperate, the woman staggers across a deck and jumps into the lake. At the same time, Milla's mother tries to break the fever and dunks her into a cold bath. Milla wakes - gasping. With the fever broken, there is still part of her who wants to be with Marlow, but she knows she must wait. They will be together again.

This is a beautiful song that is laced with techno beats. The composition also brings to mind images of fairies. The lyrics are catchy, especially the lines, 'And now there's a Dragon in my room/Heating up, like forty at noon' and 'Don't get to close to my bed/Cause I'm burning baby'.I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I did. The video for Dragons is below, as is the link to The Green Children's Facebook page. Until next time!
